đź’Ľ Ready to Feel Happier at Work? It Starts with One Conversation

Communication can feel scary—but it could change your entire financial future and mental health

Dear Fellow Financial Freedom Seeker,

Let’s talk about the recognition, raise and/or promotion you know you deserve.

Too often we wait to be “noticed.” We work hard, hit every goal, go above and beyond and hope someone rewards us for it. But here's the truth:

đź’ˇ No one cares about your career growth more than you do
đź’ˇ And no one can advocate for your pay rise better than you

For large organisations you might have a promotion cycle (and that might be coming up soon).

In smaller firms it’s more up to you to get a promotion if you want it (and there’s a business case for it).

What is often missed in both these scenarios is frequent feedback cycles.

In the big firm you leave it to once a year. In the smaller firm you also don’t have it regularly.

Your One Simple Step this week is to

đź’¬ Have regular feedback sessions with your boss

A lot of feeling undervalued, burnt out and generally unhappy in your job comes from not communicating your needs and what’s going wrong in a timely manner.

Especially when other people around you aren’t communicating either it can be easy to feel like the company culture is one of silence and just sit and suffer.

But how are management to know there are issues if those aren’t raised?

That’s why it’s important to have regular feedback sessions with your boss.

Here’s how to approach it:

âś… Reflect on your wins – Make a short list of the value you’ve added. Projects led, results achieved, responsibilities taken on. Quantify this as much as you can.
âś… Get their feedback – Give your manager the opportunity to give you constructive feedback on what you have done well and what you can improve
âś… Raise your questions – Whether it’s a payrise, promotion or your working conditions. Tell your boss what you want and need so they have an opportunity to meet you where you’re at.
âś… Have a two way conversation – Even if you can’t have a pay rise or promotion as soon as you’d like build a plan with your boss to get there in a timescale that works for both you and the business

Even if the answer is “not yet,” you’ll walk away with clarity, feedback, and momentum. And that’s power.

Remember: if you don’t ask, you don’t get.
