Mindset Moment

There are more perspectives than just your own. Sometimes getting another perspective is critical to your own growth

One Simple Step

Whilst we know ourselves best, we also have our own biases. This is why it can be really useful to get feedback on yourself from someone who knows you well.

In the context of your career, this should be from your manager.

Too often companies have no or rigid feedback structures like only being formally reviewed once per year.

This is not enough. Feedback doesn’t need to be formalised, but it should be frequent.

Given that we are coming to the end of the year...

Your One Simple Step this week is…

Get feedback from your employer

Why is this important?

You want a promotion and/or a pay rise next year?

Being able to show how you have consistently sought and adapted to feedback is one easy way to support the argument that you deserve that pay rise or promotion.

Why should someone reward you if you can’t easily demonstrate growth?

What does this involve?

  1. Ask your manager for a feedback meeting

The end of the year can get busy – especially if it’s your financial year end. Get that meeting in with your manager so you can have a constructive discussion on feedback.

  1. Have your own opinions on your strengths, achievements and areas for improvement

Feedback is a two way street and it’s good to take some time to think about feedback you would give yourself so your feedback with your manager is more of a two way discussion.

  1. Take notes

Ensure you note down everything you discuss including any areas for development so you can reference back to how you have implemented these when you have your next feedback meeting.

  1. Follow up

Summarise your notes in a formal email to your manager after thanking them for their time and highlighting the feedback points. When you have your next feedback meeting include how you have implemented feedback from your previous meeting, This enables you to have formal documentation of development and how you have achieved it when you go for a pay review or promotion.

📧 Respond to this email with whether you get regular feedback and whether you want to get regular feedback, and we’ll send you a feedback framework to help you structure these conversations.

Have a fabulous week ahead!

Until next week
